Pops is a Hero.

My lolo lost his sight this year.

So far, he's been coping with it a lot better than I expected. He still goes to work, and he just recently was allowed to go to the driving range, just as long as he doesn't exert too much force that can damage the eye. (Long story.) A few days ago, he also started going to therapy, because his peripheral vision miraculously came back. So he's been learning how to read again, utilizing what he has.

I'd just like to share one incident that happened last week...

Mom accompanied Pops to the doctor. She told us that it was the most frustrating thing, because it took him thirty minutes to read a single letter. Mom felt so bad. She said she just wanted to take the newspaper (that's what he was reading with the doctor, with the aid of this "magic" magnifying glass) from the doctor and read it for Pops.

After he was able to read a word, which is a big achievement, mind you, the doctor quietly asked mom for a picture. So mom reached for her wallet and got out the picture of my sisters and I and handed it to the doctor.

The doctor tells Pops, "Ito? Kaya mo bang basahin?" And then he tries to get a good look at the picture.

"Mga apo ko 'yan." he finally says and smiles.
